Elisa Swenson was crowned the 51st Miss Rodeo USA on January 19, 2014, at the International Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She is the 26 year-old daughter of Tom and Viola Swenson, and is from Lakeside, California.  Prior to becoming Miss Rodeo USA 2014, she proudly represented the Lakeside IPRA Bulls Only Rodeo and is also a former Miss Rodeo Lakeside.  Elisa’s love for the sport of rodeo came first from a love of horses, followed by entering rodeo queen competitions, and resulting in becoming an avid team roper.

She believes that when it comes to rodeo, horses, and life for that matter, knowledge is never-ending. Armed with a passion for helping others and words of wisdom from her mother, “Do something that makes you happy and something that makes a difference,” Elisa chose to pursue a degree in nursing.  She graduated from Grossmont College with an Associate Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences, and plans to attend nursing school upon completion of her year as Miss Rodeo USA 2014.

As Miss Rodeo USA, Elisa is excited to share her platform, “Brand Your Attitude,” which encourages others to think more positively by finding quotes or pictures that are uplifting. She looks to rodeo athletes as examples of those who face numerous challenges throughout the rodeo season and yet continue to push on, work hard, and strive to reach their goals. As Winston Churchill once said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”

“I am forever grateful to my friends, family, and sponsors that have helped me on this journey.  Every little bit of your time and efforts are precious to me and I am ever so thankful.  I am absolutely elated for my year as Miss Rodeo USA 2014. Hope to see you all along the rodeo trail!”
