It is an age old question in the “queening”
world, “What jewelry to wear with a particular outfit?” Well,
times have definitely changed and we hope to enlighten a few
of you about the new style of queen jewelry!!!
Vintage jewelry has became very popular over
the past few years. Earrings as large and gaudy as you could
find were absolutely perfect and quiet frankly are still very
en vogue. However, many people have been under the impression
for quite some time that the only acceptable jewelry to wear
are earrings. Rarely, if ever in the past, did anyone wear a
necklace or bracelet. In the horsemanship competition girls
would jazz up their stark white shirts by adding a broach with
matching earrings. However, today’s queens are showing their
ability to accessorize by adding vintage necklaces and very
often even designing their dresses or outfits around the
jewelry. Of course, keeping alive the golden rule of no
dangles in the horsemanship is a must. However, with the rage
of chandelier earrings, Miss Rodeo USA 2005 Joanna Blackwell
loves the idea of using these as queen jewelry. Add a
beautiful coordinated necklace with your dress and you are
ready to turn some heads. She believes that these young women
can really express themselves with the accessories that they
choose to incorporate into their outfits. It gives them a
chance to show their personality as well as jazz up and create
the perfect outfit in their eyes.
Some people believe that when wearing retro
button downs or plain western shirts that you should stick to
the more western style of jewelry. Quite simply when it comes
to jewelry, if it is coordinated well, whatever floats your
boat!! You will see both examples. Joanna has several outfits
that are very western and she has chosen beautiful pieces of
turquoise jewelry both in green and coral to accessorize with
her ensembles. But on the flip side, she has jazzed up very
plain shirts such as the horsemanship shirt with vintage
antique jewelry that looked equally as ravishing.

One very important thing to remember when
selecting jewelry, however, is to always try the jewelry on
before purchasing them to compare with your facial features.
Some lengths of earrings are better than others on certain
facial shapes as well as shapes of earrings and necklaces. It
is important to compare the neckline on your dress or blouse
with the necklace in question also.
Vintage and antique jewelry have been found in
many different places throughout the years. Joanna hit the
jackpot her first year in her great grandmother's jewelry box
that she had left to her mother. She had the most beautiful
broaches and earrings you could imagine. Also, ebay is an
excellent source to buy as well as sell jewelry. She purchased
two tubs full of antique jewelry for under twenty dollars and
the results were well worth it!!
So girls get out there and be creative!! Show
your personality and have fun in every aspect of competition.
That is what we do it for!!
